French based athlete Linda Benin has been named in Ghana’s contingent for the 17th African Athletics Championship in Kenya this month.
The Discus and Hammer thrower currently holds the best records in the two divisions on the African continent and is expected to put the country in the medal zone.
The 20 year old’s personal best throw in the Hammer division stands at 57.49 meters and 62.98 in the Discus event.
World Athletics governing body, the IAAF only recently formalized Benin’s nationality switch to enable her compete for Ghana.
The list also includes US based Javelin and Discus athlete Kwabena Keene who has been handed his debut appearance after completing formalities for a nationality switch.
Another US based athlete Rosina Amenebede and Canadian based sprinter Flings Owusu Agyapong made the list.
Three veteran athletes, Aziz Zakaria, Ignatius Gaisah and Margaret Simpson will lead the nations charge for medals at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
The team is expected to live the country on the 25th of July ahead of the championship which starts on 28th of July and ends on 8th August 2010.
